Blessing Disabled Veteran and Coffee Shop Couple

I was running ahead of schedule  as I was driving down to Denver to meet with four undercover policemen to pray with them. I pulled over and said, “Lord, I have this money for families in my pocket. You need to let me know what you want me to do about it.” I happen to stop near Walmart.

The Lord said, “Look over there.”

I went into the parking lot and started driving around until I got near the door. Soon this lady came out with three little kids. I watched them as they walked towards this van that looked like it was modified for wheelchairs. It had decals on it saying “Disabled Veterans”. I went over and said, “Hey, thank you for serving our country.”

He said, “It was an honor to serve our country. Because we have to trust in God in everything. My buddies were about to be killed and I jumped on a hand grenade. I did it to save my buddies lives. But it did take my legs. It’s just like Jesus Christ. He came here and he died for us to save the world. If Jesus could have done that for the world, I could do that for my buddies.”

His wife finally had a chance to talk and said, “I am always amazed how he tells that story. He is always humbled. He would give his last dime to anybody if they needed it. We are just a giving family.”

Their little 7 year old girl girl stepped up and and said, “Guess what we are getting?”

I said, “Now you are getting groceries.”

She said, “No we are only getting some items to make sandwiches. We are going to have a picnic.  Dad is not getting his check for three weeks.”

I just started crying. I just could not hold it back the way she said that. I said, “Do you believe in miracles?”

She replied, “Do you have a minute?”

I said, “Yes I do.”

She answered, “The biggest miracle is that Jesus Christ came here to earth and ended up in Mary’s stomach. And he is the son of God. He could have started walking on the earth right away. He had to go through the same thing we went through through our mom’s stomach. If that’s not a miracle then what he did is. He died and was hanging on the cross. In three days, he rose again. And now we can have the Holy Spirit in our hearts. So my answer is; yes I do believe in miracles.” She continued talking and said, “Today we prayed as a family because I have been craving Raisin Bran cereal.”

I said, “Your answers to your prayers have been answered today. I want to tell you about blue Mustang.”

She exclaimed, “Blue Mustang!”

I continue to love the response kids give me when I mention “Blue Mustang”. I then said, “Terry Bird also helps from time to time but this money is from blue Mustang. He gives money to families who need to buy groceries. What is really interesting and it’s a miracle that God has given him $140 as the amount needed for families.”

I reached into my pocket and pulled out the money. As I began to hand it to her mom, she began to cry. The little girl grabbed my wrist and she started praying. She said,  “Father you know this man and you know Blue Mustang. Bless their hearts and their lives Lord. This is going to be a miracle.  I am finally going to get my cereal.”

To this little girl the world is getting a bowl of cereal. The miracle she was looking for is just getting cereal. God hears all our prayers. While this was all going on, a police car pulled up beside my truck. He asked, “How’s it going Sonny? Is everything okay?”

The little girl started explaining everything to the police officer. It was amazing on how well she told the story. When the police officer heard the entire story, he began to cry. He said, “Bless your heart little girl.” He then looked at us and said,  “I came here because they have a Burger King in their store. Why don’t we go fill up a grocery cart and I will take care of the bill.”

The little girl said, “I need to pray for you to.” She grabbed the police officer’s hand and prayed over him. The way she prayed brought tears to the officer’s eyes.

He said, “I stopped because I saw Sonny’s truck. I knew that he was doing something for God’s Kingdom.”

The little girl understood the concept of Heaven. She said, “When my dad goes to heaven he is going to get new legs. This is temporary.”

It is a wonderful experience to listen to a prayer from a child who has a pure heart. This little girl is the reflection of her parents period. They are both godly people. As we were about to finalize things the little girl asked, “Could you tell me about Terry Bird again.  Is he Big Birds little brother or big brother?”

I said, “He’s his big brother.”

The little girl then asked, “Does he have feathers then like Big Bird?”

I didn’t want to get to carried away and said, “No, he doesn’t have any feathers.”

The family went inside the store and went shopping with the police officer. See, it happened again. The $140 was multiplied by the gift the officer gave. God is good at this. I could not go with them because it was time for me to leave for my meeting with the undercover police.

I met with the undercover police at a coffee shop. As we were talking, a couple sat down next to us. They started praying. I said, “Guys, I want you to listen to their prayer.”

The husband said, “Lord, you know our needs. You know everything we need this month. To be able to buy groceries this week would be nice.”

See how God brings people into our lives. We need to listen to what is going on around us. After they prayed, his wife said, “I want to see if Mom and Dad can help us out again this week.”

The husband then said, “You know we always lean on them when we need help. Why don’t we lean on God. Let God do the miracle. We have been using them for the past 3 months. Let’s begin to walk by faith. Let’s see what God does.”

She agreed and they began enjoying their time together drinking coffee. Franco, one of the guys with me looked at me and whispered, “Aren’t you going to go over there and give them the money?”

I whispered back, “I will but hang on a bit and continue to listen.”

They started talking about their kids and their future. I finally got up and walked over. I said, “Do you guys believe in miracles?”

They were a little surprised that someone would ask this question but said, “Yes”.

I said, “Well let me tell you about Blue Mustang and what God has put in his heart. Terry Bird also helps but he’s our prayer warrior making sure the enemy is bound.”

They weren’t sure what I was talking about. I took the $140 I had in my pocket and laid it on the table. I said, “This is for you to go and buy groceries.”

The husband looked at his wife and said, “I told you that we just needed to have faith. We do not even know this guy and he just showed up. We got to walk by faith. We cannot rely on the world.”

His wife got up and came over and hugged me like I was her brother. She just cried and said, “You just restored my faith. I was on the end of the rope. I was just barely hanging on. I call my parents for help all the time.”

All five of my friends got up and came over. They introduced themselves as my friends. They had been texting their wives while I was talking to the couple. They then said, “Our wives are coming over here. Could you guys wait here a minute?”

Franco then looked at them and said,  “Could you make a list of all your bills that are coming up this month and next month? We want to take care of them.”

They made me cry when they made this offer. Because this could cost them thousands of dollars. The wife said, “The bill that is hurting us right now is the Discover card. We owe $3,200 on that. The interest is just killing us.”

When their wives arrived, they just started writing out checks. My friends blessed them for the next two months. Just think this all started with $140. Again the husband spoke about having faith. When he spoke it out, that is when God moved. Franco then said, “If you buy liquor or cigarettes this money will not be blessed. This money is to be for rent, utilities and groceries.”

My friends spent over $5,000 helping this couple out. This included paying off their Discover card bill. My friends all told them to tear up that credit card and quit using it. The couple agreed to do that. The Discover card was the only card they had but they said they were done using any credit card. That couple got up and hugged everybody. My friends, their wives and I prayed over the couple. The manager of the store came over and gave them $150 gift card so they can continue to come to the store and get coffee. But you see if I wouldn’t have been there, that couple would have left still struggling. We all have a mission in life and God has plans to use us to bless others. My God blessed two families again but they were in different locations. He keeps my life exciting by being so creative.

Blessing Families in Reno, Nevada

It is late July. Where I work, we get three weeks of vacation at the end of July. My sister knew that and she called me one evening saying, “Sonny, I have a surprise for you. I have purchased airline tickets for you to come here to Nevada and spend some time with us. You badly need a vacation.” I was thrilled at the offer and my King had no problem with it. I said, “What time do I leave?” My sister replied, “Your flight leaves Saturday morning.”

Now I was a little disappointed. I said, “That’s a bummer because I always love eating breakfast with Blue Mustang every Saturday morning.” She replied, “Your shuttle doesn’t leave from your apartment until 9:30 am. What time do you guys eat?”

I said, “In the summer time we meet at 6:30 am.” She replied, “I don’t see a problem as to why you can’t go to breakfast. You have almost two hours to eat.”

I realized that was enough time to meet with Blue Mustang and still catch my flight. I was so excited to be able to visit my sister. In the excitement, I forgot about the families we’ve been blessing on Saturdays.

Blue Mustang said, “You know Sonny, I still think God wants us to give money for families. I think that you’re going to do remote families.” Blue Mustang and Terry Bird gave me $280 to take with me. I didn’t think a lot more of what Blue Mustang said to me. They both prayed that I would have a safe flight.

I drove back to my apartment to drop off my pickup. I easily caught the shuttle that drove me to the Denver airport. Both the shuttle ride and my flight went smoothly. When I landed in Nevada, my sister was there to pick me up at the airport. She said, ”Sonny, we need to stop at the store and get some things so that you can really enjoy yourself why you’re here.” So we headed to the store directly from the airport. As we began shopping, my sister left me in the dust. I found myself wandering in the produce section of the store. I noticed two moms getting produce across the fruit display. This family even had teenage daughters shopping with them. They looked discouraged like they wished they could be someplace else. One of the little daughters came up and asked her mom if she could get some cereal this time. Her mom told her that they still could not afford it. I looked over the fruit display and I could see their shopping list sitting on top of their cart. It looked like there wasn’t much on it. I silently said, “These are the families God wants me to bless and He soon confirmed it.

I walked around the display to them and introduced myself. I then asked if I could see their shopping list. They handed me the list to examine. I said, “This is not very much to feed this large of a family.”

They replied, “We have been asking God for a miracle so we can get more food.”

Then I said, “Jesus Christ, Blue Mustang and Terry Bird sent me here to help you buy groceries.” The women started crying when I told them God sent me here. Even more so when I told them I came from Colorado.

The men said, “Thank you so much. We just moved here and it has been difficult. Covid caused the business where we worked to close. Our employer tried to keep it going but they were forced to downsize until they were forced to lay us all off. We can use some help.”

Before I showed any money, I prayed with them. Now the men started crying. I then gave each family $140 and began telling them more about my ministry partners. They were still blown away thinking about me making a trip clear from Colorado to bless them. They then started to cry more after they realized how much God loved them to bring me here just to bless them. They rededicated their hearts to Jesus Christ on the spot. Our King gets all the Glory and the Victory.

They started praying for Blue Mustang and Terry Bird. They finished up by praying for me. They were so grateful to receive $140.00 each. They kept hugging me. They finished up and exclaimed, “You guys truly have blessed us!” I said, “Our King is Faithful!”

Meanwhile a youth group of 14 teenagers happened to be shopping in the produce section also. They were getting ready to go to a camp and were stocking up on supplies. The youth pastor noticed us praying and crying and came over to us. He asked, “Can we pray for you?” The families told the youth pastor everything that just happened. Everyone from that youth group prayed for the family. The prayers from the teenagers were definitely anointed by the Holy Spirit. The youth pastor then pulled out his checkbook and made out a check for $600 to help the families out. Each one of the teenagers had exactly $40 on them and they also felt lead to give that to the families. The teenagers made friends with the families teenage daughters and asked them to come along on their adventure. When the teenagers from the families received permission from their parents to go, the depression was replaced by excitement. Since the families are new to the area and have not found a church home, the youth pastor asked them to come to their church. We all hugged each other, exchanged contact information and we parted ways.

My sister finally came back to see if I was getting bored. I told her what happened. She said, “You mean that this all happened while I was gone. I totally missed it all. I should know by now that you are always changing people’s lives. From now on, I am hanging with you.”

I asked, “What took you so long to get here?” She said, “I met this older couple I haven’t seen in awhile and I was praying for them.”

I said, “You see now that you were supposed to be praying for those people. You were where God wanted you.” She definitely had to agree with me.

I went to the church the youth pastor attended. Both of the families came to the church that Sunday. When church started, the youth pastor had the teenagers come forward. He explained to the congregation what they did by giving $40 to two needy families without revealing that the families were attending. The church honored the teenagers with $50 for giving the families everything they had. Church then went on as usual. At the end of the service, the pastor always asks for prayer requests or testimonies. The families came upfront and gave their testimonies of their hardship and what God did at the store that day. They then excitedly shared what the 14 teenagers in the church had done for them at the store that amazing day. Their testimonies had a great impact on the congregation.

The pastor called for a special offering for the families. One guy jumped up and said, “I want to cover their rent and utilities for August.” The teenagers all came up front again and put their $50 in the offering plate for the families. The powerful message of what the teenagers had done made many in the congregation write checks to 14 teenagers. Those 14 teenagers ended up with $100. This proves that you cannot out give God. Not only are the families going to remember what God did for them but the teenagers also saw what God can do when you bless other people or help meet their need.

They will both remember this week. I always think about what would happen if we did not provide for the financial needs of God’s people. Granted we are small in the scheme of things but these two families think we are huge. Even worse is the other thing that might happen. If we did not come, would these families have suffered longer? They were praying and God would have sent others to bless them. We then would have missed the power of God at work and the enjoyment of blessing these families. It is a gift to bless God’s people.

Families Praying for a Miracle Right in Front of My Pickup

It is Saturday morning and I had breakfast with Blue Mustang. He gave me $280 to blessed two families. Before I went to the store, I went to my sister’s home to pick up the water and the pop for the gangs. I then headed to the King Soopers where I usually go to bless families. When I arrived at the store, my King had me go to the east side parking lot. The parking lot on the east side was empty. This is highly unusual. I asked, “Lord, what is going on here? Why is this parking lot so empty?” He knows me real well. He said, “Wait and be patient.” So I begin praying and reading my Bible to get some verses to speak to the gang leaders today. All of the sudden, two vans and two cars pulled up. They all parked in front of me. A sidewalk separated me from them. We were that close. Everyone from all four vehicles gathered around in a circle to pray. There was a total of two families and grandparents that were praying together. One of the dads stepped up and started praying for a miracle. He said, “You are a God of Miracles. You created the whole world. You created us and we’re believing you for a miracle. You brought us here so that we would be able to buy groceries. We will wait here until you answer our prayer because you brought us here. You said that the a miracle would occurred here.” I just sat there in my pickup listening to every word they said. I then heard one of the daughters say, “I know that God does miracles. But why do we have to wait here because the groceries are in there.” The Dad said, “They have been helping us but they cannot do anything more for us this month. So that is why we’re waiting here for a miracle.” The grandparents also financially strapped could not help their kids out anymore this month either. One of the daughter’s said, “You know Mom and Dad, we have seen a lot of miracles. We are going to believe that he will come through again.”

God said, “These are the families that we are going to help today. Do not get out of the pickup yet.” The little girl, whose name is Chelsea, looked at her grandma and said, “You always said that we have to walk by faith and not by sight. God answers prayers. I think we should make a list of the groceries we need.” The other granddaughter, whose name is Sarah, decided she wanted to make a list for her family. Both families started writing lists on the hood of one of the vehicles. One grandpa said, “Make sure you write down what you need and not what you want.” Then Chelsea quickly said, “We got our list done!” Sarah followed right behind her. They all laid hands on the list and prayed over them. At this moment, I began to cry. They were definitely walking by faith. God sent them here but they still had no idea what he was going to do. At this moment, God said, “Now is the time to step out. Tell them that I answer prayers.” When they wrote the list down on paper, that is when God told me to move. Many times God wants us to speak it out before he will do anything.

I told them what my King shared with me and they began to cry. At this moment, I still have not shown them any money. I said, “My name is Sonny. God brought me here to bless two families for groceries. They asked, “So God brought you here just like he brought us here.”

I said, “Yes and I was already here waiting for you.” One wife asked, “How long have you been here?” I said, “I’ve been here 45 minutes and this entire parking lot was empty when I got here. God told me to park right where I was because he knew that you would be parking on the other side of the sidewalk in front of me.” She said, “Oh my gosh! This is so cool.” One of the little girls took out her note pad and started taking notes of what just happened. She is documenting the things that God is doing in her life. I think more of us should document what God does for each one of us. We would also realize the many blessings that we get that we sometimes take for granted. Both Sarah and Chelsea showed me their list. They said, “This list is of things that we need but nothing we want.” It is almost time to give them money. The first thing I always tell them about is Blue Mustang’s desire to help families. Again, I love the expressions the kids always give me talking about Blue Mustang. I said, “God put it in his heart to give $140 to one family and another $140 to another family to bless them for groceries. And that is you guys.” They were still having a difficult time processing what  just happened. So they asked, “Are you carrying $280 right now just to bless somebody to buy groceries?” I already had the $280 separated into $140 in each pocket. I pulled the cash out of the left pocket and gave it to one family.  I reached into my right pocket and gave the $140 to the other family. Then Sarah said, “You even had the money separated already.” I said, “Yes, we don’t want to give $100 to one family and $180 to another. We want to bless each family equally.”

They started saying, “God is real. God is real in America.” Their grandparents spoke up and said, “We have seen so many miracles in our life but many times we have to sit here and wait. We need to give God time to do what he’s going to do. We cannot rush him.” The little girls, in their infinite wisdom, said, “If God could create the earth and the universe in six days, it would be no effort for him to give us money in a while or in a few minutes.” I then told them about prayer warrior Terry Bird. Yep, just like all the children, they thought he was related to Big Bird. I just went along and said “He is his little brother.” The families started praying for Terry Bird, Blue Mustang and me. While this is going on, three employees that worked here at King Soopers were walking along the sidewalk. They are required to park far away from the door so that customers can park closer. They were on their way to work.

I begin to realize that one of the employees had parked right behind my pickup and she heard everything that was going on. She ran over to the other two and started talking with them about what happened. They walked by and sheepishly said, “Hi.” They then halfway started running into the store. I didn’t think much of it and I just started praying with the families before they began to walk into the store. As they started walking, the manager came outside to greet them. I began to wonder what she is going to do. She stopped each family and gave a gift card to each one of them. The manager came over to me and said, “You gave them $140 each and I gave each family $140. It was interesting, I was just going to do a hundred dollars. But God said up it to $140.” The manager went back to the families. The manager said, “I know each of you made a list of all the things that you need. But I also want you to get some things that you want.”

One of the Moms said, “No, we are not going to overdo it. We are going to only get the things that we need. We still need money for gas.” The manager reached into her pocket and pulled out gift cards for the gas pumps. This ended up becoming a triple blessing again from our glorious God and King. The little kid came over and hugged me and  said “You must be an angel. We need to pray for you.” I said “I do have a lot of people praying for me already. You can also pray for me.” When I mentioned Terry Bird’s name again the little girls always respond whether he’s related to Big Bird or not. She said “That is so cool whenever I get a pet or something I am going to call him Terry Bird.” The little boy said “No it’s going to be Blue Mustang.” At this point they all hugged me for the last time and walked into the store to buy groceries.

I begin heading back to my pickup. I noticed that all four of the windshields on their vehicles were just covered with dirt and bugs. I silently said, “I wonder how they can even see out of those windows.” At that moment God said, “You clean all of their windows.” Earlier, I happened to stop by Morey’s Glass in Windsor to picked up some of their glass cleaner. So I begin to clean their windows until they were spotless. After finishing, I left the parking lot and headed to my first gang I was going to witness to. When I was halfway there, the Grandpa called and asked, “Sonny, did you clean all of our windows.” I said, “Yes, God told me that I needed to clean them because they were dirty.” The grandpa then said, “Bless your heart Sonny. You blessed our lives today. Make sure that you tell Blue Mustang that we are grateful he blessed us today.” At the end of our conversation, he said, “We even got Oreo cookies for dessert tonight. We had to buy milk to dip them in.” I then continued driving to a gang to bring Jesus Christ to them.

The parents of both daughters can help them out from time to time but they’re in a situation where they could not help out their daughters. But God brought them here to the store to be blessed. Jake, one of the dads, was asleep. God woke Jake up and told him to drive up to the King Soopers up on the hill and to expect a miracle. This message occurred even before Blue Mustang gave me any money at all. I’m so grateful that our ministry loves families and God allows us to rock their world. Only God can read our hearts and determine what we are going to do to plan this all out. Our God is an awesome multitasker and listener to our prayers. I just wonder how many blessings are missed because we do not ask him for help. He enjoys it when we pray with others in the name of Jesus Christ. Get someone to pray with you like these families do to strengthen your prayers.
