Thanksgiving with Three Gangs

It is Thanksgiving day and I am going to see three gangs today. My King has scheduled me to see the first gang about 10 o’clock this morning. The second gang around lunchtime and the third gang about 2 pm. What is interesting about the gangs that my King chose, he did three weeks ago. Most of the time it’s within the week that I go. My King always has me do it on Thanksgiving day because it is more powerful when it’s done on that day. The undercover police that I work with arranged not only to prepare the food for the gangs but found families who would cook the gangs meals along with their families. And I do mean these guys know how to cook great food.

You will begin to see the power of God as I talked to each gang. When I went to the first gang, I was carrying one of the turkeys. I knocked on the door and they seemed more curious than they were anxious. But they asked, “What do you want?

I said, “I have a Turkey meal for you.”

They were shocked when I said that and asked, “You really brought a turkey dinner for us.”

I said, “Yes, Jesus Christ said that you guys would be hungry.” They invited me in with the the turkey. They were excited like little kids in a candy store when they realized that they were going to get to eat. I asked some of the guys to help me go out and get the rest of the pies and drinks. The leader immediately sent some of the men to help me. Some of the gang members were just getting out bed and they were shocked to see a stranger in the house. This is something that gangs do not do.

As we set down the down to eat, I begin carving the turkey and handing out the meat. Everybody grabbed a plate and beginning to self-serve on the mashed potatoes, dressing, gravy and the other fixings that they provided. As everybody continued to eat, I read the scriptures Jeremiah 29:11 and John 3:16 to them. All of the gangs that I fed today had some men who had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ before. I was surprised on how many of the men could quote John 3:16 and Jeremiah 29:11 to me. Abusive fathers made these boys run away from God. When the gangs began seeing and tasting all the good food they began talking amongst themselves about traditions they had at home. As each gang member shared, they became more homesick. Soon the leader began to question why he was here and was thinking about going back home. Almost everybody in the gang had what they call a poor relationship with their dad’s. Most of them were abusive because of alcoholism and drugs. So many of them ran away. This leader was gone from home for over five years. He began to call home and his dad answered the phone. He began talking with his dad for a while. Meanwhile the rest of the gang were having the same thoughts about going home and they too began calling home. But they all said, “You know Sonny, we want our hearts right with Jesus Christ before we go home. We don’t want to go back with angry hearts.”

So the gang started giving their lives to Jesus Christ as I prayed for them. The leader came back out and said, “Sonny, when I was talking to my dad he was an entirely different person. I’ve decided that I want to go home. I don’t want this life anymore. He started to share what he was about to do with his men, but they said, “We already are starting to give our lives over to Jesus Christ now.”

So I pray for all of them as they asked for forgiveness of
their sins and God began transforming their hearts. Some of them began to cry and others began to shake and asked, “What’s happening to me?”

I said, “Jesus Christ is transforming your hearts as you asked him to.”

Soon family members started showing up and picking up their sons. I could not stay long because I had to go to the next gang.

The second gang was exactly the same as the first. They were more curious than they were anxious and they were wondering what I was up to. They were a carbon copy of the first gang. Again while they were eating they started sharing things about what they did on Thanksgiving day and they all began to want to go home but they too wanted to transform their hearts for Jesus Christ before they went back.

The third gang had the most men in it. The leader was a little bit more cautious but he was still was excited when I brought a turkey dinner up to the door. He was anxious to let me in but said, “You can come in but do not try anything funny.”

I said, “I have a turkey in my hands and I am here all by myself what could I really do. I did bring the Kingdom of God with me though.” That gave them something to think about.

They too like the first two gangs as I served them and they begin eating they too began thinking about family traditions and going home. What was so unusual about this third gang was there were some Mexicanos in this gang. One of the men shared, “I remember when my mom made these tamales for us on Thanksgiving growing up. I sure do miss those things.”

I said, “I don’t think I have any of those but let me check to see what else I’ve got.” I started checking and was digging down in the box and I picked up something that was wrapped in aluminum foil. He looked inside and began smiling. He said, “These are tamales. Thank you Sonny.”

I remember that this family asked me what kind of people were in these gangs. I told him that there were some Mexicanos in this last gang. They totally understood the culture and immediately made some tamales for those men.

All three gangs gave their lives to Jesus Christ that day. Almost every one of the Dad’s that abused their sons began to change their lives the minute their sons left. They all quit drinking and taking drugs and they had a special place for Jesus Christ in their hearts. I was thinking what it must be like for their sons to be sleeping in their own beds tonight. Many of these bedrooms were left exactly the way they were when their sons ran away. The mature Christian parents of their sons helped the other parents to find places to go to church and youth groups to develop their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

From Resenting Parents Death To Rededicating Heart To Christ

It is another Saturday with the gangs and I still cannot get used seeing gangs facing each other in the parking lot. They are all looking at each other with their pistols raised and ready to fire. That declaration of war is a difficult thing to get used to. Almost everybody would run away from this situation. Most of the time law enforcement won’t even get involved in a situation like this because it is so dangerous. But my King had other plans for me. He said, “Sonny, I want you to drive your pickup right in the middle of the park on the grass. You need to separate them.”

I always get in trouble afterwards doing this but never during the commotion. The park rangers always confide in me and say, “I want to go over there and tell you to get off the grass but every time I see them pistols I say to myself that no way am I going to bother him. I always start to pray for you. I know it can be touch and go with what might happen. The Park Ranger even called the police last time you did this but they told me we are not going to go there. We have quit going there because of the danger. We just let them take care of business and we go clean up the bodies later. So I don’t even bother to call the police anymore.”

I stopped my pickup right in the middle of them and got out. The right gang leader I did not know. He said, “If you do not move this truck we are going to shoot it.”

I said, “Before you shoot my truck or me, why don’t we have breakfast.”

The gang leader said, “What the heck are you talking about?”

I said , “I brought breakfast burritos for all of you guys. Don’t shoot anybody. Let’s eat breakfast.”

All the gang leaders then replied, “Are you serious?”

I then told them what I had with me and they repeated, “Are you serious?”

I was not sure if they still believed me so I began putting my tailgate down and laying out all the food and drinks I had. The drink of choice for gangs is Dr. Pepper. I then reached into my cooler and asked, “Who wants a Dr. Pepper?” I began to think that everybody thought they were in heaven. They all began asking for one. Some even asked if they could have two. I began passing out the pop and water.

The guys began looking at each other and exclaimed, “Just a minute ago, we were about ready to shoot each other and now we are having breakfast together. This is not what I came here to do today!”

I then replied, “Hey man, God said for me to prepare a meal before your enemies. Here is the food that he asked me to make for you.” I then reiterated, “Let’s eat together, then you can either shoot each other or shoot me.”

The gangs then asked, “What do you mean? How can you be at such peace knowing that you could be shot?”

I said, “You do not understand. If I get shot I am going to be with Jesus Christ. I am going to be able to see him face-to-face. Then I will begin praying for you guys from up there.”

They were not sure how to respond to that so they started saying, “I’ll take two burritos. I am hungry.”

I began passing out the burritos while I was talking to them about Jesus Christ. When they came for food they put their pistols away. The gang on the left knew me and put their pistols away first. The other two gangs were more hesitant at putting their guns away. When they determined it was safe after watching the other gang put their pistols away, they began to put theirs down also. I began thinking to myself about the time Blue Mustang prayed for this to happen. He prayed that when I approach them with the word of God that they would quickly put their pistols away. Only God and the power of prayer could make this happen. I’ve been doing this ministry for five years and this has never happened before. I know for sure it is God.

I was listening to the conversations as they were eating. They were talking about baseball with each other. They mentioned the Colorado Rockies baseball team a lot. Just 15 minutes ago they were ready to shoot each other to claim their territory in the park and now they are talking about baseball. Only the Holy Spirit can transform the heart in such a short period of time. I have learned the gangs are just kids who are broken. There was a total of 98 men here today eating breakfast.

After they finished eating breakfast I then said, “Let me pray for you guys before you do anything. I would like to know if any of you have a prayer request I want to pray over that also.”

Frankie one of the leaders said, “How can God forgive all of our sins? I have a lot of sins. I have been on the naughty list for a long time. I am never going to get any gifts from Santa Claus.”

I said, “Jesus Christ has a gift for you and it is the Holy Spirit. That is free because he came here and died for us. Do you believe that?”

Frankie replied, “Yeah, I do. I have heard the story about John 3:16.” He began quoting the Scripture in front of all the gangs. One of the guys, whose name was Rudy, asked him, “Were you a Christian before? You knew that Scripture well.”

Frankie said, “I was a Christian before and I walked away from God. My dad and mom got killed in a car wreck and I have been mad at God ever since.”

I said, “It wasn’t God’s fault that they died. He does not just plot to take people out.” I paused for a moment then asked, “Were your mom and dad organ donors?”

Frankie replied, “Yes, they were.”

I said, “Look at all the people who are living today because of them. You are alive today because they gave you birth. Because they died, it is now possible for other people to live on. God needed them for other families. You will see your family again if you give your heart to Jesus Christ.”

Frankie replied, “I already did that once. But I have sinned and done a lot of bad things.”

I said, ” God will still forgive you but you have to ask.”

Frankie said, “Yeah, I know. If I asked for forgiveness he will forgive me and forget all my sins.”

I replied, “Yeah and you remembered all of that.”

This made Frankie think. He said, “Yes, I do remember all of that.” At this moment God said, “Sonny, you need to play ‘Amazing Grace’ right now.” I immediately walked to my pickup and turned on the outside speakers and played “Amazing Grace”.

Frankie began to cry and said, “Why did you have to play that song?”

I replied, “Because God told me to play it for you.”

Frankie then shared, “That was my mom’s favorite song.”

I said, “You know your mom was probably standing by God and asked him if I could play that song for you.”

Frankie then asked, “How do you hear God’s voice?”

I said, “You have to listen. I have Jesus Christ in my heart. He is my King and I have a relationship with him. It is not a religion, it is a relationship.”

Frankie still crying then replied, “You know what, I am tired of running from God. This is it. When you started playing that song.” His thought was interrupted and he then asked, “Can you play that song again.”

I then hit my remote and began playing the song over again.

He then said, “You playing that song again means a lot to me. I am going to make my life right this day forward.” He then reached for his phone and called his grandma and grandpa. Frankie said, “I am coming home. I have rededicated my heart to Jesus Christ again. I just want to come home. I am done with this gang life.” All of this was being said over the speakerphone so everyone could hear Frankie speak. Everything was totally silent and everyone was listening.

His grandma began shouting “Hallelujah”. He then told her that he was going to be coming home in a little bit.”

His grandpa then spoke up and asked, “Where are you at?”

Frankie then explained to him where he was at. His grandpa then said, “I know exactly where that is at. We are only 25 minutes from there. We want to come and see you now.”

I did not realize what was about to happen. They were going to bring their whole church with them. They immediately began calling the pastor and everybody they knew about the situation. They said, “Sonny needs your help at the Park right now; let’s go.” They then called their friends to come too. Some of the people said that they were not going to go there because of the drive-by shootings. The brave ones said, “We don’t care. We are going anyway.”

While we were waiting I began to pray for Frankie’s whole gang. After he rededicated his heart to Jesus Christ his gang wanted to do the same thing. They began to think about what it would be like to go back home. They did not like the life they were living now. The gang on my left was watching Frankie’s gang give their hearts to Jesus Christ.

That leader asked, “Is it really that easy to give your heart to God and become a new person?”

I replied, “God will transform your heart. But first you have to ask for forgiveness. Then just ask him to come into your heart.”

The leader then said, “I am ready to do that.” As that leader gave his heart to the Lord his men began to follow suit. Men kept coming forward from all the gangs that were left.

Soon a bunch of cars started showing up. They were people from Frankie’s grandparents church. They brought food, water, and more Dr. pepper. Others brought Bibles and started passing them out. Even those that hadn’t given their heart to Jesus Christ yet, took a Bible. They then asked if they could pray for the gang members in any way. The men who had not given their hearts to Jesus Christ started looking at me and said, “Sonny, we’ve got to go. We are not ready for this yet.” They took their Bibles and did not cause any problems. They then said, “We will see you around.”

Everyone else who stayed was being showered with lots of love from the church. Frankie then spoke to his grandparents and said, “I have finally made peace with God for what happened to my mom and dad. I am not mad at God anymore.” Frankie then came over to me and hugged me for nearly 10 minutes in front of everybody. He was not embarrassed at all and continued to cry while God was healing his heart before everybody. It was beautiful how this all came about.

Frankie’s grandpa came up and asked, “I see you supplied breakfast burritos to all these men.”

I explained to him that the food is supplied by Blue Mustang and prepared by my friends. I just bring it to the gangs.

His grandpa then said, “God bless that man.”

I was there several hours. I would continue to pray and talk about the Lord to all these men and parents. When their sons gave their hearts to Jesus Christ, the parents wanted to do the same thing. God gets the Glory and the Victory. I could do none of this without his help.

Commerce City Gangs Come to Jesus Christ

It is Saturday and my King had me drive to the park on the east side of Commerce City, Colorado. When I arrived at the park I was surprised to see it empty of people. It was already warm and turning out to be a beautiful day. This is definitely a tough park. Not very many parents will bring their kids to play here. The gangs love coming here. There usually is a lot of gang activity going on here. I even see a lot of homeless people who hang out here.

I just did not understand what was going on. My King had me pick up tacos for the gangs to eat. My King knew that I was becoming anxious and said, “Sonny, why don’t you just be patient. Just wait.”

So I continued to watch and see what was going to happen next. Soon a bunch of old cars started showing up. Whenever I see 15 cars showing up at the same time, I know it’s a gang. They all parked close to my pickup.

One of the gang members got out and said, “You have a nice truck, but you should not be here. This is our turf.”

I did not know this gang but I knew the one that was going to be coming next. I then replied, “Did you guys hear about the new owner of this park?”

They replied, “What do you mean?”

I said, “I bought this park.”

They were shocked and exclaimed, “You bought this park?”

I said, “Yes, my boss bought it for me.”

They then asked, “Who is your boss?”

I replied, “My boss is Jesus Christ.”

They then sighed, “You had us going there for a while. We thought you really did buy it!”

I said, “Jesus bought it with a price so that I could come here and talk to you about how much he loves you.”

As I was speaking one of the kids came up to me and said, “You smell like tacos.” I had a bunch of tacos in my pickup sitting next to me so I’m sure I did smell like tacos.

I said, “Yes, I have a bunch of tacos in my pickup. Are you guys hungry?”

He said, “Bring it on. We definitely are hungry!”

I said, “I need some help getting everything. My cooler is in my back seat and is very heavy.”

I have to put it there to keep it from disappearing. I found out that if I go into a store and it’s in the back of my pickup, someone always steals it. So it has to be locked up.”

They were anxious to help me so, I had plenty of help getting everything out of my pickup. While they were doing all this, a second gang pulled up on the other side of the park and began watching us. I waved them to come over and meet with us.

The gang leader asked, “Why are you calling them to come over? We fight with this gang.”

I asked him what his name was and he said, “Billy.”

I then said. “Right now we need to call a truce. Let us have a good lunch. They are hungry just like you.”

Billy than replied, “Okay man. I can do that.” He then looked at his men and said, “If anyone in that gang makes a wrong move, you guys just start shooting them.”

The other gang cautiously began walking across the park and asked, “What do you want man?”

I replied, “Are you guys hungry?”

There leader whose name is Charlie then said, “Heck yes, we are hungry! What do you have to eat?”

I then told him about the tacos and the drinks I had.

Charlie hopefully asked, “Do you happen to have a Dr. Pepper?”

I then showed him the Dr. Peppers that I had just waiting for him in my cooler. I told him the same thing I told the other gang. “We are not going to do any fighting. We are here just to eat right now.”

He had no problem with that and his gang began helping the other gang to eat and drink everything I had.

While they were eating, I was praying and speaking about Jesus to them. I then asked them if they had any prayer requests. They began to reveal things that needed to be prayed over. Many of their family members were down with covid. After I finished with their prayer requests, I turned my thoughts to them and asked, “Do you men know where you’re going to spend eternity? Because I do know where I’m going. I am going to be in heaven with my King. I would like to invite you to come with me. I will be waiting there for you.”

The new gang began to ask questions first. Charlie then asked, “How do you get to heaven?”

I then replied, “First of all you have to ask for forgiveness of all your sins.”

Charlie said, “I have way too many sins. I can’t even count them all.”

I then said, “Jesus does not keep track of the number of sins. He is more interested in you asking for forgiveness and what is in your heart.”

Charlie then asked, “Is it really that simple?”

I confirmed, “It really is that simple. He will not only change your heart, but He will transform it.”

Charlie then asked, “Will it bring healing between me, my mom, and my dad?”

I said, “Yes it will. They will see the change that Jesus has made in your own life.”

Charlie then replied, “I would like to try it.”

Charlie’s  men were shocked at what he just said. They all looked over at him and said, “You are the meanest guy in the whole gang and you think that God is going to forgive you.”

Charlie’s answer was even more profound. He said, “Yes he will. God sent Jesus Christ for you and for me. I am tired of being mean. After you accept Jesus Christ you will not be walking in darkness anymore. Jesus Christ is not a religion but having a relationship with him. You have to worship him, pray with them and read his word. I do not have a Bible right now.”

I replied, “I have a whole box of Bibles in my pickup.”

As I was walking towards my pickup, they all shouted out they wanted Bibles too. These Bibles were the New Testament only. I began passing them all out asked, “Who wants their names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life?”

They paused a little bit but they came one by one. James was the first one who said, “I am tired of living this life. I am tired of hurting people. I am tired of waking up hungry. I want to go home.”

When James made this confession it emboldened the rest of them to take the step. They all began coming forward and they began thinking about their families. One asked, “What if our parents do not take us back?”

I began to encourage them and said, “God is faithful! As soon as you tell them what happened today, just see what happens. Call them and tell them.”

They all began calling their parents on their phones. In the beginning they were pointing their pistols at me and now they are crying. The gang I knew was watching everything that was going on. Billy came up to me and said, “Those guys are pretty tough. We just fought them last week and now they are crying.”

As the gang continued to watch they began to see the change in their lives. Billy then said, “I do not know if God will forgive me of all my sins but I will ask.”

I said, “He will. Not only will he forgive your sins but he will forget them. He is not going to hold them over your head. Once you ask, just watch and see what will happen to your heart.”

Billy’s gang began crying as Charlie’s gangs parents started showing up. Some of the parents recognize some of the boys in Billie’s gang and said, “Your parents just live three blocks from us.”

Billy then said, “We keep to ourselves.”

Billy’s gang continued watching as the parents were showing up for their sons in Charlie’s gang. Billy’s gang too decided now is the time for them to give their lives to Jesus Christ.

God is doing some amazing things right now. Most of the time when I witness to gangs only a small percentage give their lives to Jesus Christ. But lately whole gangs have been turning their lives over to Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit has been working overtime to transform hearts in these men to bring them into God’s kingdom. I even noticed this witnessing on the streets. God will say to me, “Stand here and they will come to you.” I do not need to say anything. I will stand up next to a wall holding my Bible and the people come to me. People begin to walk by me and they notice God’s word in my hand. They stop and look at me and will say, “Hey, I sure could use some prayer today.” Just on Friday night, I prayed for 33 people who came to me and did not even know who I was. God gets the Glory and the Victory for all that. I just get to see it.

They continue to come. Others recognize the writing I have on my clothes and will say, “You must be a minister out here on the streets. We would like you to pray for us.” I expect the crowds to continue to grow each week as I witness on the streets. I firmly believe that God is trying to reach everybody to know who Jesus Christ is. He promised that he would not come back until every man has heard about Jesus Christ. I also know that he is working hard to have a unified church where we all believe in exactly what Jesus Christ believes in and we live our lives just like he did.

Baseball Cap Brings Salvation

It was Saturday morning and I picked up the breakfast burritos after eating breakfast with Blue Mustang. God then had me go over to the east side or Commerce City, Colorado again. I went to the same park. When I arrived, there were 23 young men standing almost in a circle. I noticed that there was a baseball cap on the ground in the middle of them. This is definitely one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen before. I asked, “Lord, what is this all about?” I then walked over to them carrying only my Bible. I then asked, “How are you guys doing?”

The leader looked at me and solemnly replied, “What’s up Sonny?”

I asked, “What’s going on with the cap?”

The leader replied, “There was a drive by shooting here last Sunday. When the shooting started my right hand man Frederick tackled me to the ground so I would not get hit. He took the bullet for me. As I was going down, the bullet hit him in the back. The bullet then entered his lungs. He just could not make it. The hat marks the spot where Frederick died. We are just having a moment of silence for him because he put his life on the line for me. If he would not have tackled me I would’ve been dead for sure. I had to go to his parents to tell them what happened. But what was shocking was I found out his parents had died from Covid. Fredrick did not even know his parents were dead. When I arrived at his parents home, his aunt and uncle were cleaning out the house. I had to explain to them that Frederick died putting his life on the line for me. This brought tears to his aunt and uncle when they realize their nephew was gone. The aunt and uncle were not mad at me. His uncle said his brother raised Frederick right. The fact that he took the bullet for you shows me that he has a lot of character. His uncle then hugged me to encourage me.” The leader was beginning to get choked up.

The leader then said, “We came back here to have this moment of silence when you showed up.”

I did not even asked them if they wanted prayer. I immediately started praying for each of them. They started crying as I prayed over them. I asked God to bring healing to their hearts and to their families. When I finished praying for all of them, the leader asked, “Sonny, does God really forgive all of your sins? We have done a lot of bad things. We steal money. We use girls for fun. We steel drugs and sell them for money.”

I replied, “It only takes a willing heart to ask for forgiveness. You have to ask for forgiveness first. If you ask for forgiveness and for Jesus Christ to come into your heart. He will transform your heart and give you a new one.”

The leader replied, “He really can do that?”

I said, “Yeah man, he can give you a new heart.”

The leader then said, “If God can forgive all my sins, I want to give my heart to God.”

This was all that was needed to inspire the entire gang to want to give their hearts to the Lord. The leader said, “What a way to honor our best friend who died right here at this spot.”

I said, “I got to pray with Frederick at our last encounter. He was very close at making a decision to give his heart to Jesus then but he didn’t do it. But who knows maybe he did it on his own.”

The leader replied, “The night before he was shot, on his bed I saw the Bible that you gave him. He had it open and highlighted John 3:16”

I said, “He gave his heart to Jesus Christ. For him to be reading that in bed and the fact he highlighted John 3:16. That is the reason why he gave his life just to protect you. I know he is with our King. You do not have to have me around. You can do all of this on your own whenever you decide. But just remember that tomorrow is never promised not even for me.”

The entire gang said, “We want to give our hearts to Jesus Christ right now. We are tired of this life.”

They all gave their hearts to Jesus Christ. It is sad that sometimes tragedies are the only thing that will get our attention. But when Frederick laid his life down for the leader, it changed the hearts of everyone in that gang. I am not sure how long it might have taken for this gang to commit to Jesus Christ if this tragedy didn’t occur. This is the fourth time that I have seen this gang. God knows how to use every circumstance to his advantage and it brought salvation to this gang. God gets the Glory and the Victory

Next week I am going to meet this gang with all their family members. I am sure they are going to have lots of questions that I will need to answer. It is our responsibility to disciple those whom we bring to Jesus Christ.

Life Sacrifice Salvation

It is Saturday again and God had me head to one of the parks in Commerce City Colorado. These are fairly nice parks but very few people use them because of the gangs that hang around them. There has been a lot of drive-by shootings lately in these areas. Parents are reluctant to take their children here to play. Before I arrived God had me stop and pick up donuts, cookies and chocolate milk. I was thinking with it being almost lunchtime that people normally eat lunch at this time. I checked my watch which said 12:30 PM. God then reinforced what he said, “Sonny, go and get the donuts. Just do it!” I quit questioning God and picked up the donuts.

When I arrived at the park, I noticed that there were a group of young men kneeling down and praying on the sidewalk. The gang I saw were part of the East Siders. I have personally never met this gang before. I did not understand what was happening and God has not revealed anything to me yet. God brought me here so I went over there to see what was going on. They were still praying as I came up to them. I kept quiet and didn’t say a word. The leader was now praying and said, “Lord, I have not prayed to you in a long time. We lost a good friend and brother two days ago. I had to tell their parents that he was shot. It is just eating my heart out. I do not know what else to say other than the fact I am sorry. It was my fault that it happened.”

The entire gang remained kneeling while he was praying. You could see their pistols on their bodies as they knelt there. God then said,  “Sonny, get on your knees. What are you doing by standing up?”

I knelt behind them and continued listening until he finished. When he said “Amen”, God said, “Sonny, you need to start praying now.”

I had no idea what I was going to say. But the minute I opened my mouth, God started giving me the words. I prayed, “Father, thank you for all these young men. I thank you for their lives. I thank you for those who are here that none of them got killed or hurt. They miss their friend and fellow gangster. I pray for the family that lost their son. I ask that you would intervene in their hearts and to tell all that are here that you love them. Lord, it’s nobody’s fault. The leader should not take this weight on himself. Other people have made choices that made this happen. I pray that you bring healing to this gang.”

At this moment, some of them started crying. I did not know of anything else to say but God said, “Sonny go and lay your hand on each one.” They all stayed kneeling as I began praying for each one that God would encourage them bless them and love them. After I finished praying for the gang I prayed with the leader. He began to cry. I was about to find out what happened.

I had already looked around where they were praying and noticed the dried blood on the sidewalk. The chalk marks were still there where a body laid. They were kneeling right on the spot where their friend died. I found out later that this man, Ricky, was the bodyguard and lost his life defending the leader. When the drive-by shooting occurred, Ricky immediately covered himself over the the leader while he pushed him down. This action prevented the bullets from striking the leader but the bullets struck him and killed him instead.

After hearing the story from the leader, I replied, “Jesus Christ gave his life for us. He rose again from the dead. God honored that and he also knows that Ricky gave his life for you. He was a noble man who loved you and protected you. He is now going to be standing before God. God saw what he did and it is not going to be in vain. I am sure that he embraced him. Whenever one gives his life for another man God will always honor that. There is no greater love than the love of sacrificing yourself for another.”

As I was saying this, the leader began crying so hard that he was beginning to sob. God said, “Sonny, reach out and hug him like he is your son.”

I held my arms out as I walked toward him. At first he had his arms hanging straight down as I reached around to hug him. Soon he raised his arms up and he began hugging me to. He continued to cry for about five minutes. All the rest of the gang was standing and watching. When I checked my surroundings, I could see another gang across the park. I did not know their identity either. When I was done hugging the leader, I asked the gang if they were hungry. One of the gang members immediately spoke up and said, “Boy, I sure could use some donuts and chocolate milk right now.”

I said, “Before I arrived here, God told me to get donuts and chocolate milk. Let’s go to my pickup and get them.”

I immediately put my tailgate down and started laying out the donuts and the drinks. But when I put the cups out they said, “We do not need cups. We just pass the jug around.” It is amazing how many times gangs never use the cups. They all pass the jugs around.

The leader then asked who I was. I told them my name and the ministry that I have reaching gangs and telling them that Jesus loves them. The leader replied, “Thanks for your prayer man. I don’t want to be a gangsters anymore. I feel it’s time to give my heart to Jesus Christ. Your prayer was so good. When you quoted Jeremiah 29:11, that really hit my heart. It meant so much to me. I am speaking for myself.” He then turned towards his men and said, “You guys have a choice to continue being gangsters or to give your hearts to Jesus Christ like I am going to do.”

There was a moment of silence. His men one by one said, “I want to go back to my family.”

I started praying for each one. One by one they began giving their hearts to Jesus Christ. After they did that, they began calling their families.

When the leader gave his heart to the Lord, a van pulled up. It was Ricky’s parents that were driving the van. The leader then said, “I need to see what they are going to say.”

Ricky’s parents came over to speak to the leader. They said, “We want to let you know that it is not your fault what happened to our son. It is definitely not your fault! We found out that he gave his life trying to protect you. So now we are going to have to adopt you as our son. If my son could give his life for you, now you are our son.” This brought peace to the leader and he began to cry.

The leader then said “I have just given my heart to Jesus Christ. We are not going to be gangsters anymore. We are going back to our families.”

Everybody there began exchanging contact information so they could get a hold of each other as they separated. The leader who had really never prayed until today had his heart touched by Jesus Christ. He now wanted to pray for me. The leader began sharing more of his past to me. He told me about when he was young and how his parents listened to Billy Graham as he grew up. He was a wonderful man. My problem was that I did not get along with my dad. I felt my dad was too strict for me and I did not want to follow his rules. That is the reason why I am out here. Now I am going to try to get back home. The leader pulled out his phone and called his parents. When he began speaking to his dad, his dad began crying. Other families kept coming to pick up their sons while the leader was still talking to his parents.

One parent asked, “You said that you gave your life to Jesus Christ?” The son replied, “Yes, that is true. It is time for me to change my life. I want a new purpose for my life. I do not want to do this anymore.” The parents and their son began crying together. There was a total of 19 men in this gang.

As the families continue coming I looked over to see what the other gang was up to. They just continued to watch as all the families began picking up their sons and taking them home.

After everyone left, I began to head over there to talk with them. When they saw me coming, they all jumped in their cars and left.

God gets the Glory and the Victory for what happened today.

That gang may have thought that they have gotten away from me but I know my King has plans for me to meet them in the near future. I will be there to make sure they hear the message of Jesus Christ.

Commerce City Gangs Get Saved

It was going to be a beautiful Saturday. God had me go to Commerce City, Colorado. He knew that there were going to be some gangs hanging out there today. When I arrived at the park, I could see Regi’s gang there and they were having a good time. A second gang showed up shortly. Their arrival started changing everything. They stopped what they were doing and began looking at each other. Gangs all have their territories and another gang will not be tolerated. It really looked like they were about ready to go at each other’s throats. I then asked, “Lord, what do you want me to do?”

There was a wide sidewalk down the middle the park so I decided I was going to drive my pickup on that sidewalk right down the middle of them. God has trained me well in what to do in this situation. I always get in trouble for doing this but no one was in sight to do anything about it. It is interesting when the pistols come out they all run away and they stay away until the gangs leave. They never act tough around the gangs. I have never received a ticket but I always get the same message, “Sonny, you need to get your pickup off the grass and park on the street.”

When my pickup came to a complete stop, I jumped out and started getting all the food and drinks out and putting them on my tailgate. Both gangs were caught off guard and they were surprised. They asked, “What are you doing man? We don’t get it!”

I then replied, “Are you guys about ready to fight?” They confirmed they were. I then said, “Let us have breakfast first before you fight.”

The gangs then exclaimed, “Are you kidding me? Who do you think you are?”

I said, “My name is Sonny.”

When I mentioned my name, the other gang leader exclaimed, “You’re that guy that witnesses to gangs about Jesus Christ. We just don’t want to hear any of that right now.”

I said, “Still, I did bring breakfast and the food is getting cold.”

They began to look over the food and said, “Breakfast burritos?” I confirmed I had those.

One kid then asked, “Do you have any cereal?”

I said, “Yes, I have Captain Crunch cereal which is my favorite.”

He then politely asked, “Could I have some?” and I confirmed that it would be great. I pulled the bowls out and the bottled milk. Then I reached for my box of Captain Crunch cereal. A lot of the guys went for the cereal over the burritos.

I then said, “God knew you were hungry and he sent me here to serve you guys and to tell you that Jesus Christ loves you.”

They couldn’t argue with me at this moment because they all had food in their mouths. I then read John 3:16 to them.

Some of them were beginning to get irritated and exclaimed, “Dude, would you just stop talking about Jesus!”

“No,” I replied, “I am not allowed to do that. I was sent for a specific purpose of telling you He loves you. That is the only reason why I am here. Jesus wants to show you that you have a new purpose in life. What you are doing now is not what God wants. He created you for His Glory and Kingdom, not for yours. God wants to bring healing to you and to your hearts.”

One gang member then said, “You know nothing about my heart.”

After he finished speaking, two young boys snuck up behind me. I found out their names were Isaiah and Lucas. They were both riding bicycles and pulling wagons. I looked at them and I was just about ready to tell them that they should leave right now.

I said to myself, “These boys don’t realize who these guys are. These are gangsters that I am with.” I then looked in the back of their wagon and noticed that they had literature in them. The boys then said, “We are here to pass these out. They tell you how much Jesus loves you. You guys all have parents and I know that they miss you.”

As they started handing them out they said, “Just read them anytime you want.” I looked at the pamphlet and on the front it said, “How to accept Jesus Christ?” They continued to hand the pamphlets out to every gang member. Each man took one. They immediately put them in their pockets. None of them read them right away.

Isaiah grabbed one of the pamphlets and opened it. He said, “I want to read one of the verses that is in the pamphlet.” He began reading John 3:16 to them. He read further and quoted Jeremiah 29:11 to the gangs. Lucas picked a pamphlet and read Matthew 6:33 to them.

These boys appeared to have come from nowhere. Now they are beginning to preach to both of these gangs. They started telling them how God wants them to go back to their families and to forgive their parents. They also said they should also ask for forgiveness for the things they have done. Isaiah finished up saying, “We both have warm beds and parents who love us. I know that your parents love you too. You should go back home because that is where God wants you to be. Not out here on the streets.”

Finally Regi said “We have had enough. You two boys, leave now.”

Regi’s right hand man said, “These boys are making lots of sense. Just like Sonny said, I bet our families do miss us. Our parents probably are crying for us every day because we are not there. I need to ask my parents for forgiveness because I was a jerk. I was mean to my parents. They were just trying to guide me the right way. I thought I had too many boundaries and too many rules so I decided to leave. Look at where I’m at right now. Maybe I should call them and talk to them.”

Lucas said, “You won’t regret it. Your dad and your mom both love you. You should call them. Let us pray for you before we leave.”

God told me to be quiet and just listen to these boys speak. Many times God tells me to just listen. Lucas started praying for him. He definitely was a praying machine. He continued praying for the gang’s salvation and that God would protect them. I was totally amazed on how the Holy Spirit was giving him insight into every gang member as he prayed over them. He would say things like “Your sister cries and prays over you every night.” These are things only the Holy Spirit would know. I followed each boy around not necessarily protecting them but to give them support as they prayed. After they finished praying for all the gangs, they prayed over me.

I asked Isaiah and Lucas if they were hungry. I then told them I had Captain Crunch cereal and pretty spicy breakfast burritos.

Lucas said, “I never had a homemade burrito before.”

Isaiah asked, “Do you have a Dr. Pepper?” I told him that I had one and he gladly took it from me.

I finally noticed that their parents were on the edge of the park using binoculars to watch over their sons. They were standing with four other couples. They were all praying over these two because God has called them to be out on the street handing out these pamphlets. They do this every weekend. The parents believe God wants their son’s to do this and they are going to take them wherever they need to go.

I watched the boys as they went back to the van. Their parents prayed over them. I saw one of the boys signaling to his mom and dad as he was pointing to his throat. He was chugging that Dr. Pepper trying to get the burning sensation of the burrito out of his throat.

Both gangs watched as the boys left. They then asked, “Are those boys with you?”

I replied, “No they are not. God brought them here today to show you who He is. Those boys were speaking life into you guys.”

One gang member said, “When he prayed for my step sister like he did, it pierced my heart.”

Another one said, “He prayed for my sister and told me that she was worried sick over me.”

They all began thinking about what each man was saying. They all reached for their phones and began calling home. In 30 to 40 minutes, cars began to show up. They were all family members coming to pick up their sons. Before they had a chance to leave, I said, “Do you want your names written in the Lamb’s book of life. Today is the day of salvation. Tomorrow is never promised not even for me.” I then pointed towards the street and asked, “Did you guys notice that three other gangs have been driving around the park observing what has been going on. They did not do any drive-by shootings because God has been protecting you.”

Regi said, “I am tired of being a leader. I am always worried that we are going to get shot. If that would happen, I would not be able to see my mom and dad again. You are right. I am done.” He then looked at his men and said, “If you guys want to be gangsters go ahead but I am going home.”

He then picked up his phone and called his dad. He has not spoken with his dad in four years. As he spoke to his dad Regi began crying right away. He had his phone on speaker and I could hear his dad speak. He asked, “Are you crying Regi?”

Regi replied, “Dad forgive me for the things I did to you. I am sorry.”

His dad was so excited speaking to his son. He asked, “Where you at? We are coming for you.”

I could not count all the people that showed up. All kinds of family members were so grateful to be able to see their sons again. After all the gang members gave their hearts to Jesus Christ, the parents saw the change in their sons hearts. They wanted what their sons had and they were ready to give their hearts to Jesus Christ. Many of the sons brought their parents over to me to pray over them after they convinced there parents they needed to accept Jesus Christ. I prayed over them for their salvation. Everything that happened today was so beautiful. I was here at this park over 4 1/2 hours watching while God used his servants to bring the message of salvation to these gang members and their families.

Many of the families called me the next week and let me know that the boys are trying to get their GED’s, counseling and whatever they needed to do for their new life in Jesus Christ. I told them all to call me if they needed help. My job is to disciple them and to make sure they continue on their path of serving Jesus Christ. I’m not sure if those little boys realized how dangerous those gang members were but I am beginning to think that they did not see gang members. What they saw were broken hearts. And they truly must understand their calling and that God will protect them until their ministry is finished. God has been using other people to bring salvation to the gangs. It not only brings courage to them but it keeps me humble when they do my job for me.

Grandma Leads Three Gangs to Jesus Christ

It was Saturday and the weather was decent so I knew that the gang members would be outside. God told me which gangs that I needed to witness to today. The undercover police know where all the gangs are at and I began heading to the park. There was a double highway next to this park. I noticed that there was an old lady who is trying to get across both highways. She was using a walker trying to get across the road. She just was not fast enough to make it across. The walk sign would not stay on long enough for her to make it across. She could not even make it halfway across the first lane. She would have to turn around and go back to start all over again.

I was in a bad location to be able to help her. I parked my pickup on the other side where the park was at. I noticed two gangs were there already. I have met both of these gangs before. I also know that these gangs both know each other but they don’t totally trust each other. God then said, “Sonny, you need to go help that lady get across the highway. Take both of these gangs and have them help you get her across the road.”

I walked over to the gang leaders and said, “Guys, I have an emergency. I need your help. There is an old lady over there that is trying to get across the highway and she just cannot make it across. The light is just too fast and she is never going to make it across. We have to set up a chain all the way across and block the intersection. Even if the light changes nobody will be able to cross the crosswalk until she makes it across.”

One leader then said, “It is like being pirates.”

I confirmed that is true. I then said “You guys will all have to work together if we are going to make this work.”

Both gangs agreed and said “We definitely have enough cars to do what you want to do.” All of these guys are driving classic cars ranging from 1951 to 1961. Everybody got into their cars and headed to block that intersection. The lady was still trying to get across the road. Nobody else has even tried to help her get across. We had a plan which was to block every lane so that no matter which way any car was coming they would not be able to cross the crosswalk.

The gang leader said, “You know Sonny we could get in trouble for doing this.”

I replied, “You guys are always in trouble anyway. Why are you even worried about that? If it makes you feel any better I will take full responsibility for what we are doing. I will even take the ticket.”

We put our plan into effect. We had enough cars that every lane was blocked. I got out of my pickup and introduced myself to the lady and said, “The guys and I are going to help you across the highway.”

She said, “I’m trying to get to Walmart.”

Juan came up to the lady and said “Hey, you can get into my car if you want to. I will take you across. If you want to go to Walmart, I will take you to Walmart.”

She thought that would be a great idea.

I placed her walker in the back of my pickup.

Juan was driving a 1956 Chevy. The lady just loved that car.

I found out later that when she met her husband that he was driving a similar car. She said ” I actually loved his car more than I did him when we first met but of course that all changed and I married him.”

It was interesting, that while all this was going on that no one honked at us. They must’ve been able to see what we were trying to do. It also could be the fact that everyone of these gang members was carrying pistols. That also might have been a deterrent to keep people from honking. Juan’s car had an open path to get across the street because we had the roads blocked. Juan took her directly into the Walmart parking lot.

The old lady introduced herself and said, “My name is Martha.” She then asked the gang members if they wanted to go shopping with her. The fact that they were gangsters did not deter her at all. She did not care because she was beginning to fall in love with all of them as a grandma would with her grandchildren. Seventeen of them decided to go shopping with her. The rest of the boys stayed and watched cars. So there were eighteen of us walking around Walmart with Martha. We were in that store for a full hour. It was fun the entire time. Martha shared stories of her past and it was all very interesting. She was also telling the boys how much God loves them. She was quoting the scriptures John 3:16 and Jeremiah 29:11. Towards the end she said, “You know that your grandma and grandpa and your family really miss you guys. I just bet they are really crying because they miss you very much. You guys are just lost boys and broken but God can heal your hearts.”

Martha ministered to them the entire time they were in the store. She had filled her cart with a bunch of groceries and we all headed to the checkout line. I pulled my wallet out to pay for her groceries but the boys said “You are not going to pay for her bill. We want to help out.”

Juan then said, “Sonny, put your card away. We are going to pay the entire bill.”

I watched as both gang leaders took out their wallets and paid for the entire bill. It was over $200.

Martha then said, “You boys don’t have to do that. Even though I am on a fixed income, I know what I can spend.”

Both leaders replied, “No mam, we are going to take care of your bill.” At that moment Martha started crying.

Juan then said, “We are taking you back to your house. You are not going to walk 10 blocks with your walker.”

She excitedly climbed back into his 56 Chevy and Juan took her home. You can see the expression on her face as she drove with Juan back to her house. Both gangs followed in their cars. Her home was nice. Her husband died three years ago so she was all alone. The neighborhood that she lives in consists entirely of mostly older people.

When all of these cars showed up, you could see all the drapes separate as they peered outside. The other homes were trying to figure out what was going on at Martha’s house.

I was trying to imagine what they were all thinking as all these tattooed, pistol carrying young men got out of their cars.

Martha invited us all in to be guests at her home.

After accepting her invitation, a third gang showed up. They happened to be looking for these other two gangs. The leader thought it was very odd that they were not there at the park. So he began to investigate where they possibly might have gone. So the entire gang began driving around looking for them. One of his gang members reported that he saw the cars leaving Walmart and he began to follow them to Martha’s home. The rest of the gang caught up to him.

The confused gang leader then got out of his car and asked, “What are you guys doing here?”

The other gang leaders replied, “We were helping this cool lady. She needed help getting across the highway. We all blocked the highway and escorted her to Walmart. We then went shopping with her. She is just awesome. She is now inviting us into her home for milk and cookies.”

Martha then said “You boys are invited to come in and join us.

Can you imagine three gangs walking into Martha’s home while all the neighbors are watching. This is definitely going to be the talk of the town. Martha began serving all the gang members. She brought out the cookies and the milk and began passing around napkins and glasses. She continually talked about Jesus. Even in her home every wall had scriptures on them. Many of the Scriptures were created as paintings.

The boys began reading them all. Once in a while you would hear one blurt out “That Scripture is my mom’s favorite.”

Martha kept serving and praying over them. She told more stories and shared the message of Jesus Christ to them the entire time.

The curiosity of what Martha was up to just became to much for her neighbors. They had to come over and find out what was going on. When Martha answered the door, they asked if she was okay and what’s going on here.

Martha replied, “These guys are all gangsters but they all helped me get across the highway. They even went shopping with me at Walmart and paid my bill for me. They are just lost boys that need the Lord. I’m here telling them that Jesus loves them.”

She invited her neighbors to come in and introduced them. She then asked the leaders Juan and Ringo to come with her. She took them to a room and handed them two boxes of albums to bring downstairs. Martha then said, “I want to show you guys some pictures.”

She began showing them pictures of when she was a little girl with her family. Soon the leaders started crying as they began to see her family having fun together. They really began to miss that. Family just hit them right in their hearts. They all began to think back of the special times they had with their own families. Martha was just like a grandmother to these boys. Her ability to show love to them like they were her grandchildren had a profound effect on them. Martha continued hugging them and praying over them just like a grandma would with her grandchildren.

Juan decided to order some pizza because his boys were getting hungry.

I realized that I had forgotten that there were still breakfast burritos in my pickup. I mentioned that to Juan.

Juan said, “That’s okay Sonny but we still want some pizza.”

I brought them in and they ate everything I had with the pizzas Juan ordered. My burritos were spicy but everyone seemed to love them. While this was all going on the neighbors continued to come to the house and stay. They too began witnessing to the gangs. Most of the neighbors became impressed with the young men. One neighbor asked them why they wear the pistols.

Juan replied, “We always have people wanting to shoot at us. We have the guns to defend ourselves.”

That same neighbor then asked, “Juan, how long has it been since you talked to your mom and dad?”

Juan replied, “It has been over a year since I talked to them.”

The neighbor immediately said, “You need to call them now. They miss you a lot. Please call them.”

Juan then stepped into Martha’s kitchen and called his parents. Soon you could hear Juan crying as he was speaking to them.

I went into the kitchen to pray with him.

Juan then said, “I am done being a gang leader. I’m tired of this life. I want to go home. I want to give my heart to Jesus Christ.”

Martha then came in and took Juan back to the living room. She then prayed over Juan as he began giving his life to Jesus Christ.

One by one Martha began leading all of the gang members to accept Christ. Soon families began showing up after their sons began calling them. Martha’s daughters also came to see their mother. When they saw all the cars and people at her home, they asked Martha what was going on there.

Martha begin explaining to her everything that happened today. Her daughters began to cry as the story unfolded.

One daughter, whose name is Kelly, said, “Mom, I will be right back!” and she quickly left the house. About 25 minutes later she came back with two boxes full of Bibles. She immediately began passing them out to the boys. They were not big Bibles but they consisted of the New Testament.

I later found out that there were 72 boys that received Bibles at Martha’s home. I figured at least 70% of the families that showed up were Christians. But you know by the time their sons confessed what just happened to their lives, those other parents also gave their lives to Jesus Christ.

When you see a major heart change like that in your children, it does have impact on your own life. They too said, “I want what my son has. I want to give my heart to Jesus Christ also.”

We were at Martha’s home for approximately 5 1/2 hours. As it was getting late into the day, it was time for everybody to go.

Martha’s daughter Kelly went to go get her walker. Martha called out to Kelly and said, “I don’t need it anymore. God has restored me and I am going to walk out with these guys on my own.”

Her daughter argued with her at first trying to get her to use it because of her loss of balance. Martha still resisted and began walking with the boys without it. Both daughters were amazed as they watched their mom walk the boys to their cars. She didn’t even come close to losing her balance. God truly did restore her.

This story has more to it than the salvation of three gangs. God brought Martha into this because since her husband died she has been basically giving up and to a certain extent lost her will to live. It is a lot like being self absorbed. We feel life has cheated us and we focus on that disappointment. But what happened today has reenergized Martha. She has found a new purpose for her life and she is on fire for God and the love of these boys. She has taken them on like they were family. Martha now is looking outward and sees her life entirely different. I was basically silent during this whole event as it unfolded. Martha brought the word of God to these boys. And just being a grandma had such an impact on them. When they viewed her family albums, that brought them back home. God gets the Glory and the Victory on how he used everything today to bring all three of these gangs into his Kingdom. Martha is now restored and she’s excited to disciple everyone of these boys. She still likes to talk about that ride in Juan’s 56 Chevy.

Juan said, “Any time you want to go for a ride in that car, you just let me know and I will pick you up.”

Martha then said “You got a deal.”

Another thing that Martha did was whenever she would walk by me she would grab hold of my cheek and say, “You are so adorable. You just continue to do what you’re doing with these gangs.”

Martha has been calling me all week. She has been going to all the homes of these boys. They are starting group meetings where 10 or 12 of the gang members will meet. Martha is checking up on them just to make sure they’re okay. She’s even checking on their families to make sure they’re okay also. If the families are not Christians yet, Martha’s is praying for them too that they will accept Jesus Christ. Martha said, “Sonny, I have adopted all of them. I love them all. They are my boys now. I am going to make sure that they are doing well.”

The main thing Martha is concerned about is making sure that all of the families have their names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Martha’s love for these boys is so strong that I really don’t believe she even noticed the tattoos on their bodies or the pistols they were carrying. She only saw their hearts.

Three Gangs Surrender to Jesus

My King had me go to one of the parks in Commerce City to meet up with three gangs. I had a bunch of frisbees and Nerf footballs in my pickup to entertain them. As I got near to the park, I noticed a bunch of vehicles parked on every side of the park. Each set of cars had a gang attached to them. I watched as all three gangs began to converge to the center of the park. They all looked extremely angry as they were approaching each other. Some of them even had their pistols drawn. God said, “Sonny, drive your pickup onto the lawn and cut them off from each other.”

I always get nervous about doing this because many times I get in trouble for driving on the grass. But it is interesting I’ve never physically got in trouble with the park ranger while the gangs are carrying pistols. They are a mile away. After the gangs surrender their lives to Jesus, they will say, “You know it’s my job to tell you to stay off the grass with that large pickup. But off the record you have my support.”

As I drove my pickup between the three gangs, I rolled my window down and asked, “What’s up?”

One of the gangs knew who I was. The leader said, “This is Sonny. Everybody just leave him alone. He is a good guy and he brings food to the gangs. That’s his ministry. You guys better not touch him. If you touch him my boys are going to start shooting you. So just listen to what he has to say. Then we will get on with our business.”

The other gangs were surprised at his response and asked, “You know this guy!?”

The leader replied, “He is a man of God. Just leave him alone.”

I began to think back when Blue Mustang specifically prayed that the gangs would not physically harm me in any way. I could see how God answered his prayer by having this gang leader stand up for me.

That leader then said, “There are a lot of people praying for this guy and this guy named Blue Mustang. So you just leave him alone.”

He then looked at me and asked, “Sonny, what are you doing? We have some business to do.”

I then said, “I brought tacos, cheeseburgers and cookies for everybody to eat.”

The leader then rephrased what I just said.

The other gangs said, “Move your truck or we will begin shooting at it.”

I replied, “Before you shoot me or my pickup, why don’t we sit down and have a good lunch. But let me pray for you guys before we do anything else.”

The leaders asked, “You want to pray for all of us?”

I replied, “Yes, you can shoot me and my truck later.”

They weren’t expecting the answer I gave them and they responded, “What!” They did not know how to answer my response.

I began setting up all the food and praying for all of them. They all began eating while I prayed. I then began walking around talking to each one of them and reading scriptures over them and asking them for prayer request.

One of the gang members whose name is Sammy asked “Sonny could you pray for my grandma she’s got covid real bad.”

Another gang member also said, “Sonny could you pray for my uncle? He has Covid real bad. He’s in the hospital and he is really sick.”

At this moment, they lost interest in shooting each other and were more concerned with me praying over them. All three gangs started giving me prayer requests. After they finished eating, I reached into my box of toys and grabbed a nerf football and said, “I know you guys are probably full but who can catch a ball.”

I began putting the boxes out with all the balls and Frisbees in them. All of the guys began grabbing a ball and started playing with them. I then grabbed a nerf football and said, “Anyone ready to catch a football?”

The one guy said, “Yes, I’m ready to go.”

I then said “Hut” like a quarterback would. The gang member then took off running and I was interrupted by a question and began talking to the guy. The gang member who went for the pass was not to happy and came back.

He said, “I went out for a pass and you just started talking to these guys. You better never do that again. If I run out for pass you are going to pass it.”

He took off again and this time I made sure that I passed it to him. It wasn’t a very good pass but he still caught it. That looked fun to the rest of the gang members and they started creating teams. Even God had to be part of this because competition is what got them fighting in the first place. But this competition ended up being a blessing from God. When God shows up, things do change.

After they played for while, I then asked them “who wants their names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.” I then began reading John 3:16 and Jeremiah 29:11 to them. I asked, “If you guys want to accept Jesus Christ today, your names will be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.”

One leader said, “I’m beginning to get tired of this life. I am tired of looking over my back all the time. I am done with this life and I want a new life. I want a new purpose.”

After the leader made this confession, one by one they all began giving their hearts to Jesus Christ. I spent a total of 5 1/2 hours with these guys as they went through the process of accepting Jesus Christ into their lives. They kept on playing games. There were more balls and frisbees than they all could use.

Some of gang members grabbed a few of the balls and frisbees and took some of them over to the homeless to share with them. They said, “Sonny, we just wanted to share with them too so they could have fun like we are today.”

By this time it was getting close to suppertime. I have no idea who did it but a white van showed up with 39 pepperoni pizzas. Their excuse was there was a lot of mistakes made in ordering pizzas today and they did not want to throw them away. As I watched these guys I said to myself “I think that I know these guys” but I could not recollect where I saw them last.

The homeless guys were watching what was going on here and they were hoping that they might get something to eat when they saw all those pizzas arrive. A brave homeless guy asked if they had any extra food for them. The gang members then took some of the boxes of pizza to the picnic table near them and started serving them pizza.

I said to myself “How in the world is this happening? Gang members usually do not have a servant’s heart. In fact they live to serve themselves.” But yet again when you give your life to Jesus Christ he will change your heart from a selfish heart to a servant’s heart.

Forty minutes later all kinds of cars began showing up. Parents and family members were coming to pick up their sons who had been making phone calls home. It is interesting when families lose their sons to gangs how many of them come to know Jesus Christ. There still were at least 30% of the families though, who still did not acknowledge who Jesus Christ was.

The gang leader Ringo looked at his dad and said, “I’ve given my heart to Jesus Christ and my name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.”

His dad then said, “Ringo, I have never heard you speak like this before! You have never talked about Jesus ever. ”

Ringo replied, “God is real. I want a new purpose in my life. His name is Jesus Christ. This guy told me there is either the Lake of Fire or heaven. I have chosen heaven.”

At this moment his dad started crying and he too accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. The sons all had this effect on their parents. Many of those unsaved parents became saved today.

On Wednesday all three leaders got baptized at the same time. One of their dads runs a swimming pool/recreation place and opened it up to them so they could get baptized. The pastor from that dad’s church welcomed and baptized them all. It was a very big celebration.

If I would’ve known that they would’ve been doing this, I would’ve taken the day off just to celebrate with them. All three leaders are now meeting once a week having a Bible study. It is open for all those who were part of their gangs along with their families.

Only with God can you have three gangs that were ready to have a shoot out come to peace. I found out later that the gang that knew me claimed the turf of that park first. The other two gangs decided they also wanted to take control of that park. They were ready to find out who was the better man. Jesus ended up claiming victory when they gave their lives and their families to Jesus Christ.

The next time I met with the undercover police I asked, “Who delivered those pizzas? I saw you guys out working with us that day.”

They replied, “I don’t know Sonny, but maybe you don’t have to think about that.”

I had food for them too but it just was not quite enough. God gets the Glory and the Victory.

The park Ranger did tell me to stay off the grass at the end of the day. I talked to him about Jesus Christ then prayed with him. He ended up giving his heart to Jesus Christ before I left the park.

Cuban Drug Cartel Leader Gives Life to Jesus Christ

One of the new drug cartels in Denver heard about me on the streets. Because I minister to gangs on the street, the gangs have a tendency to give their hearts to Jesus Christ. This action in turn hurts their business moving drugs. Jesus Christ sets you free from this kind of behavior.

I happened to be in a parking lot and the drug cartel saw my pickup. They pulled into the parking lot and surrounded me with nine black Cadillacs. The interesting part about this is actually the fourth time that black Cadillacs from various organizations have surrounded me. It seems like black Cadillacs and bad guys go hand-in-hand.

I got out of my pickup with my sword, the Bible, to see what they wanted. They said, “We just want to let you know we are going to beat you up. You are hurting our business and we don’t like it. We are only beating you up this time because it’s a warning. The next time we are going to physically shoot you. You just leave all the gang members alone.”

I replied, “I do not listen to you guys. I only listen to what my King tells me to do. He gave me a ministry to witness to gangs but he also gave me a ministry to witness to guys like you. My King says I am to make disciples of all nations. I am here to tell you that Jesus loves you and he has a different purpose for your lives than what you are doing now. If you want to beat me up, go ahead, but let me pray for you first.”

The leader seemed to become fearful. He said, “You know what, you just pray for us and we will get out of here.” When he said that all of his men started looking at him really strangely. They knew they came here to beat me up and they could not figure out what was going on. Every one of his men was holding one of those small black clubs just to hit me.

I began praying for each man. The Holy Spirit gave me insight into each person as I prayed. As I finished praying, the leader then said, “See you around later Sonny.” They all began heading toward the cars. I gave each man a ministry card as they passed by me.

The leader then called me later and wanted to meet with me on Friday night. We made arrangements to meet at 9:30 PM. As I was face to face with the leader, he said, “That night that we surrounded you I wanted to put a hurt on you so bad. I was trying to reach for my pistol but every time my hand would go near, it went into excruciating pain. Whenever I pulled my hand back it would return back to normal. I tried this several times. Every time I reached for my pistol my hand would severely cramp up. This scared me and I realize then that God was protecting you. I am now ready to give this life up. I want to accept Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. I have left the organization. I even told the organization what my plans were. I told them that I am finished with what I was doing and I want a new purpose of my life. I just do not want to do this anymore.” He looked intently into my eyes and said, “I want to surrender my life right now Sonny! Tell me what to do and I will do it!”

I said, “Just ask Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. You don’t have to make an itemized list but just ask him to forgive you for the things that you have done.” I paused for a moment then said, “Then ask him to come into your heart and be your Lord and Savior. Do you believe that Jesus Christ rose in three days? Do You believe that he came to this world to save us?”

He replied, “I have heard it all but I’ve always been running away from God.”

He, his wife, and entire family was there listening to him as he gave his life to Jesus Christ. His wife began crying as her husband spoke the words giving his heart to Jesus Christ. His little girl and two little boys grabbed a hold of their dad and gave him a big hug. At this moment he said, “I want my name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life!” As he spoke these words, little girl began crying. Those kids are going to remember this day when their dad gave his life to Jesus Christ.

The dad then shared with me that when he left the organization that they gave him a payoff like a retirement. To honor God he wants to invest all that money into God’s Kingdom. I then asked, “What happened to the rest of the boys?”

He responded, “They all went home to their families.”

There is a Cuban leader who resides in Denver and hires people to be part of his cartel. I asked him if he was the one that hired him and he confirmed that it was. Everyone’s been trying to find out who he is or where he’s at to arrest him. But he is very good at what he does and he stays hidden. The leader then said, “Sonny before I came here tonight he gave me a message to shoot you. I told him that after you prayed for us, I can’t do that because I cannot kill someone who just prayed for me. I was extremely nervous but he answered okay and gave me the envelope with the money and the title to the Cadillac.”

God gets the Glory and the Victory for this. Without God’s protection over the leader, he would have been shot. God has plans for this leader and he needs him alive. I cannot wait to see how God is going to use him.
